![]() You didn't play the flute if you reached the castle by using the glitch and you also made the game get all weird, so when you meet the dude, instead of saying his usual speech he'll just say "Estou sem palavras" (which means "I'm speechless."). If you go through the stage normally, the only way to reach this castle is by playing a flute you get earlier. Capitão Feio is another character from the Mônica comic.) He's saying "Unfortunately Capitão Feio escaped.". (This is not the rare text, it's just part of his normal speech. I really wish I could show it but I tried searching and it unsurprisingly doesn't exist online.Īfter you go through the colorful glitched-out section for a while, lo and behold, you actually reach the end of the stage - the one you'd have normally reached if you played through it normally by walking to the right.Īt the end of this stage you enter a castle and meet a weird dude who will talk to you: If you do the glitch right at the start of this one stage, you can cross the invisible barrier on the leftmost border of the screen and the entire stage gets completely fucked up. Thing is, in a certain stage after mid-game you start by falling from the clouds of the previous sky stage. We started playing around with it for fun. We played that game so damn much that eventually either I, my brother or my cousin discovered the glitch by chance. Apparently you even need an original controller to pull it off, so it's obscure as hell and I don't think it can be reproduced on an emulator.Īnyway, the same glitch was present in the Mônica no Castelo do Dragão version of the game. The details of this glitch are sketchy in my mind at this point, but you can see discussions about it here, and this FAQ makes mention of it (funnily enough, it's an eerily similar story with the FAQ's author, as he, his sister and his cousin (!) discovered the glitch by accident). If you keep the buttons pressed and move forward, you can vertically scroll over entire stages (you'd still need to beat the bosses for the keys, etc). If you hold L+R and jump, instead of landing on the floor Wonder Boy/Mônica will go into an invincible state and fall through the stage, reappearing on top of the screen, then falling all the way down again. Obviously I didn't know about any of this back in 1991, the fact the game was originally Wonder Boy only came to my knowledge years later. ![]() ![]() The game was released locally as Mônica no Castelo do Dragão. However, the main character was re-skinned to look like Mônica (local comic character) and some graphics + the story in the game were altered in the translation so it would fit Mônica. In 1991 Tectoy released Wonder Boy in Monster Land for the Sega Master System in Brazil. Plus it was back when this kind of stuff couldn't be found out about online. It's cool and nostalgic for me because I, my brother and my cousin found out about it by accident. This post got much longer than I planned, not sure if anyone will read this but I want to leave it documented here. This is convoluted to explain and I don't have screens or videos to prove it.
